Fonott Kalács - Hungarian Plaited Bread
Fonott kalács is a Hungarian plaited loaf similar to braided challah bread. Sweet with a shiny golden crust and pillowy texture, perfect for breakfast.
I love garlic, but never use it in Csirkepaprikas. There’s no reason not to experiment, and vary this simple but terrific dish. What I wouldn’t do though is add a dollop of sour cream on top of the finished dish – looks good to the eye, but at home the cream mixed through the sauce carefully to not curdle. No kid can resist it that way, and that kid will likely grow up and cook in the same way for nostalgia if nothing else!
An excellent recipe.
I do not use garlic, but 2/3 chilly peppers and a squeeze pf concentrated tomato puree.
2/3 mushroom might be used.
As above, my mum would not add garlic and used sweet and hot paprika but I don’t think you could get smoked paprika 40-50 years ago.
Recipes evolve and I look forward to trying this one.
Tastes even better eaten the next day with fresh noodles BUT mother-in-law Aranka did not add garlic. Also, I use a mixture of sweet and hot but not smoked paprika and no added water. YUM
